Viva Las Vegas!

We went to see a couple of surf bands play in Vegas this weekend. It was the 12th annual Rockabilly (1950s) weekend. Rockabilly is a full-blown counter-culture movement centered on music, style, motorcycles, tattoos, vintage model cars, and lots of very interesting retro outfits (patterns that incorporate polka dots, deuces, stripes or cherries, these feature heavily in Rockabilly style). And the hair... pompadours, platinum blond or black with pinned curls and waves, flowers, and lots of hot pink streaks or bangs. Icons in the rockabilly movement were people like Bettie Page, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. It was quite an interesting crowd of people. Great people watching.

The Aquasonics and their Go Go dancer "Miss Kitty" (surf band from Denver)

Chad with The Barbwires (surf band from Sweden)
A clip of The Barbwires:

We walked down the strip and checked out some of the casinos. Below is a picture from Caesar's Forum shopping mall. Like everything in Vegas, the mall is elaborate and over the top with the ceiling painted like the sky, huge fountains, aquariums, and Roman sculptures.

Instead of the traditional teddy bear, the FAO Schwartz at Caesar's has this giant trojan horse.
We went in The Wynn, one of the newer casinos. It has a beautiful flower atrium with intricate marble floors inlaid with mosaics.
The Venetian's signature feature is its quarter-mile Grand Canal, a waterway by piazzas and shops where you can partake in gondola rides.
Famous dancing fountains in front of BellagioStatue in front of Caesar's Palace, with The Bellagio in the background
This is where we stayed - NY NY. We were upgraded to a spa suite with a huge hot tub right in the room. It was nice, but we were hardly there to enjoy it.This was the view out of our window. The roller coaster.

Unfortunately I did not come home a millionaire, but I didn't loose money either and we had fun. So its back to work tomorrow.

Sounds like a great trip! I have never been to Vegas, maybe someday! It's hard to get away from the farm.
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I love your dogs and horses. They are beautiful! I love watching my dogs play, they will play non stop if we let them! Aussie's are so high energy, I can barely keep up with them!

Deb, its fun and interesting for a day or so then I get "peopled" out. Everything there is so extreme, big, bright, your senses are on overload. I sure wouldn't want to live there either!!!
